Superfoods you should be eating for healthy skin

Hearing the term "Superfoods" probably brings to mind images of rare plants and fruits found in an unknown country.

"Superfood" is a buzzword to indicate that a food has high nutritional value. While you might think that superfoods come from exotic plants deep in the jungle, think again. Supermarkets are much more common than you might think.

Foods with high nutritional value can be found right in the grocery store: mushrooms, leafy greens, dark berries, bananas, nuts and seeds to name a few.

1 . Goji berries

Goji berries are one of the most notable fruits in terms of their ability to absorb and eliminate free radicals. I like to sprinkle a handful on top in the morning.

Other great berries to add to breakfast for antioxidant benefits? Wild blueberries, polenta, blackberries and blueberries.

2. Chia seeds

Along with carrying the hormone-balancing anti-inflammatory benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, chia seeds are also rich in vitamin E, an antioxidant ingredient known for its ability to hydrate the skin and keep it supple and soft.

3. Turmeric powder

A high concentration of an active compound called curcumin is found in turmeric and is an ingredient that is known to be anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and a powerful antioxidant. Taken as a supplement, curcumin can reduce the inflammation that causes acne and rosacea, and applied directly to the skin, a paste of turmeric and honey can shrink blemishes overnight thanks to their antibacterial properties.

4. Green tea

Along with a daily SPF, a cup of matcha in the morning will help protect your skin from UV damage better than just applying sunscreen.

5. Batat (sweet potatoes)

They're great for your skin and health, and they're also delicious and filling. Baking ensures that they retain their healthy properties, and the edible flesh is high in fiber and potassium.
